An eye for fashion

Teresa Broadhurst is a director at Broadhurst Optometrists, a wife, a mum, a yogi, a climber-of-The Dolomites and much much more. What we love about her is that she manages to do it all with style. After this photoshoot, I think we should be adding the word model to the list too! We catch up with Teresa to get all of her juicy fashion tips.

“Most of my clothes are from Boden and I love having lots of colour in my wardrobe as it makes me feel happy and confident. I especially enjoy discovering new colours that I feel work for me, and combining colours in a new ‘clashy but cool’ kind of way as per my green cropped trousers and red blazer and pink blouse – that doesn’t sound a good combo on paper does it?!”

Although Teresa loves colour, there are also days when she just wants to throw on some neutral separates and ‘jazz’ it up with some oversized jewellery, a beautiful silk scarf or some great specs.

“My specs are a massive part of my wardrobe and I always consider which pair I’m going to choose that day, not only to give me great vision but also to enhance the way I feel. I LOVE using specs as a fashion statement and some of my more colourful specs take all the strain out of having to choose what clothes to wear- they give the WOW factor to a neutral pallet for any time, day or night.”

When it comes to style and comfortability, Teresa seems to want to have her cake and eat it, she needs her outfits to be both stylish and super relaxed.

“I love clothes that I can feel relaxed, yet stylish in. Clothes with a little stretch and which I can team with trainers when I need to dash around, for this, I would not be without my red suit – which I often wear as separates and which seems to work with everything in my wardrobe (AND it can be thrown in the wash when necessary!)”

When asked if Teresa has a style icon, she said: “I don’t particularly have a style icon, but if anything, I would say I think French style is timeless and as I’m not into disposable fashion or following trends, following this suits me well.”

Although she doesn’t have a style icon per se, Teresa’s daughter Sarah often gives her great shopping advice. “We’ve always both loved stylish clothes and have similar taste. She’s always happy to chat over recent purchases or video call me now that she’s moved away when deciding if a length or style works for me. With her input, I feel I can choose clothes with a twist, to keep my style classic current. Who knew it was ok to wear trainers with a ‘conker’ coloured, midi-length skirt – it looks amazing and a combo I will definitely be wearing for our upcoming daughter/mum trip to Florence – I really can’t wait!”

As Teresa is 5’2″ she finds it slightly difficult to find the right clothes on the high street, she says: “I often shop online as it gives me a great opportunity to search for petite ranges. I often feel a bit swamped in clothes on the high street because of my height. However, I do love to pop into Stringers in Lytham – they have some great ranges which seem to suit.”

“My straight leg jeans are a recent Boden purchase- I LOVE the cut as they are so much more comfortable than my usual skinny jeans.”

Teresa relies on versatility when it comes to choosing key pieces for her wardrobe: “I really like this blouse as I can wear it during the day through to the evening – I’m having a dusky pink moment just now and I can count on my blouse looking as good with jeans as with palazzo pants for a smarter look in the evening.”
